Description
Detailed description
In the middle of Lübeck's old town, between the Heiligen-Geist-Hospital and the Behnhaus Drägerhaus Museum, lies a small park: the Bürgergärten. A hidden green oasis that consists of several interconnected gardens and offers peace and relaxation amidst the hustle and bustle.
To explore the Bürgergärten, head towards the Geibel monument and turn right into the cobbled street. This is the entrance to the idyllic oasis. In the Bürgergarten, visitors will find green paths, seating areas to linger and various sculptures that enhance the ambience.
The special thing about this place, however, is the unique view of the backs of the representative town houses that characterize Lübeck's Old Town, a World Heritage Site.
Not only the gardens themselves, but also the sculptures in them are evidence of generosity and cultural diversity. The bronze sculpture of an original by Georg Kolbe, a memorial to the booksellers who died in the First World War and other works of art from various sources such as foundations and the Günter Grass House enrich the Bürgergärten and make them a unique cultural experience.
