Description
St. Catherine's Church is the only preserved one of the former four monastery churches in Lübeck.
Detailed description
Around 1300, St. Catherine's Church was built as a church for the Franciscan order - a church of a mendicant order without a steeple. The light brick building was once the center of the Franciscans in the entire Baltic Sea region and impresses with its masonry of black-green glazed and red unglazed bricks despite its relatively simple architecture.
Inside, there are numerous special features to discover, such as the two-story choir and the masterpiece "Revival of Lazarus" by Venetian painter Jacopo Tintoretto (1576).
