Bücherpiraten

Lübeck

Bücherpiraten e. V. was founded in Lübeck in 2002.

The organisation's mission is to inspire children and young people to love books. Through reading, writing, performing and organising, children and young people can approach the world of literature and put their own creative ideas into practice. In the children's and young people's groups, which take place regularly at the Children's Literature Centre, the children learn to work together as a team and to take responsibility for their own literary projects. The Book Pirates are also involved in several projects to promote reading beyond the Children's Literature Centre. Since 2018, they have organised the North German Reading Promotion Congress every two years.
The Children's Literature Centre is located in the Altstadthaus at Fleischhauerstr. 71 in Lübeck. In addition to rooms for children's and youth groups, the Bücherpiraten have also set up an event room. Here, the young people can try out their own event formats and organise projects such as the Lübeck Youth Book Days. The Bücherpiraten-Festival, a children's literature festival, is also held there once a year.
On the ground floor of the Children's Literature Centre is the Charity Bookshop, where 40 volunteers sell donated books. Proceeds from the charity shop support the educational work of the Bücherpiraten children's and youth groups.
