Description
Lübeck (not just) for Lübeckers
Once a month, you can expect a special tour through Lübeck with an exciting theme. You may have never viewed Lübeck this way.
Only available in german.
April 20 - History is Female
Lübeck? One thinks of brick, the Hanseatic League, and the Middle Ages, of a city created and shaped by daring men. But half the sky here also belongs to women. We will guide you to saints, artists, writers, politicians, to the first female PhD in Germany - and right into a novel.
May 18 - Buddenbrooks
This literary walk leads to houses, streets, alleys, and squares mentioned in the novel. It ranges from the town hall and St. Mary's Church to 'appropriate' addresses like the Buddenbrook House, as well as to less prestigious corners and passages. The tour ends at the school of Thomas Mann, where he impressively processed his struggles in the school chapter at the end of 'Buddenbrooks' as fiction.
June 15 - What's that about?
All over Lübeck, we find special house stones, inscriptions, and symbols. With many examples, we discover hidden treasures and unveil some secrets from long ago. Along the way, we learn a bit of Old Low German and find out much about the people who left their marks in Lübeck many years ago.
July 20 - In the Footsteps of Nobel Laureates
Thomas Mann, Willy Brandt, Günter Grass – significant individuals who share not only a Nobel Prize but also a connection to Lübeck. We will follow their trails.
August 17 - Jewish Traces in Lübeck
This tour highlights Jewish life in Lübeck from the second half of the 19th century until its destruction by the Nazis. It also points to the revival of Jewish life after World War II, and ultimately to the restoration and reopening of the synagogue in 2021.
September 21 - Living, Loving, and Suffering in the Middle Ages
How did people amuse themselves back then, and why did the Lübeckers build so many churches? How did the lives of long-distance merchants, craftsmen, and the common folk differ? This engaging tour covers the living conditions and working world of the citizens in medieval Lübeck.
