Description
Detailed description
In order to provide for the widows and orphans of seafarers and merchants, but also to provide for their own salvation, respected citizens established foundations.
The most famous Lübeck foundation is the early baroque Füchtingshof. In 1636, the councillor Johann Füchting designated one third of his inheritance "for the benefit and best interests of the poor". The eye-catcher of the courtyard is an outstanding building with the meeting room, the Vorsteherzimmer, which today is considered the most beautiful interior of Lübeck from the 17th century. In our blog Lübeck ZWISCHENZEILEN you will find a detailed description of this fascinating building.
Please keep in mind during your journey of discovery that the residential corridors and collegiate courtyards are still inhabited today.
