Herbs and vegetables in bathtubs

Holiday Inn Lübeck

In the spring of 2021, bathtubs which had been weeded out during the renovation of bathrooms in the hotel, were reused for the cultivation of herb and vegetable beds. The kitchen team and house technicians realised this special herb garden during short-time working as a team-building event. The herbs planted and home-grown vegetables have since been used for fresh, seasonal creations in the Kochwerk Lübeck restaurant. There is an impressive variety of herbs such as rosemary, thyme, coriander and cress as well as squashes, cucumbers and tomatoes.

The hotel’s bathtubs also found worthy use in a charitable association that helps rescued horses, ponies and donkeys by serving as drinking troughs in fields. These tubs were appropriately sealed by the reception team before being passed on.

This is a good example of how seemingly useless items can be reused, thus making a positive contribution to the environment and society. It also shows how creativity and commitment can play a key role in the implementation of sustainable projects. By reusing the bathtubs, the hotel was able to reduce its ecological footprint and contribute to the rescue of animals.

The Holiday Inn Lübeck team is proud to take its responsibility for the environment and the community seriously. Various sustainability initiatives have been implemented, among them energy-efficient lighting, the use of environmentally-friendly cleaning agents and a recycling programme. The hotel also supports local charitable organisations to maximise the positive impact on the community.
