Our goal is one of constant refinement on the path to a sustainable future for the whole of Lübeck and Travemünde. In the process, we are banking on certification as a “Sustainable Destination” with the TourCert seal. In doing so, we would like to show that we are taking responsibility and identifying how our local tourism operations can make their own offerings more sustainable and climate-friendly. We use TourCert certification because:

• The journey is our destination: the TourCert seal rewards systematic commitment to sustainable corporate governance – and does so from the very first step, not just when everything is already perfect. the seal gives us the confidence and boost not to ease up and always to get better.
• The 17 UN sustainable development goals (SDG) make up our compass: All the criteria for awarding certification are based on quality and environmental management standards in accordance with ISO and EMAS as well as the Global Sustainable Tourism Council (GSTC). We therefore meet the UN’s 17 sustainable development goals (SDG). The following aspects are inspected and evaluated: management and communication; protection of resources (energy, water, waste); biodiversity and cultural legacy, purchasing, regionality and mobility, quality management and social responsibility, economic responsibility.
• Everyone can join in to make the world just a tiny bit better: from the economy, social and cultural aspects to ecology: TourCert permeates the entire value chain in tourism and functions in a cross-section of the industry: hotels, holiday apartments, guided tours, catering, retail, leisure and cultural offerings – anyone can take responsibility, every commitment counts. What’s important is that many people join in. The more companies and service providers join us on this journey, the better. Here we show who has already signed up in Lübeck and Travemünde and what we are specifically doing.
• We don’t want to make any empty promises: Our goal is for social and cultural responsibility and ecological compatibility as well as climate protection to be the standard if you are a visitor to Lübeck and Travemünde or you live or work here. You should not have to choose between responsibility-aware or non-aware alternatives. Every event, every overnight stay, every purchase should be as protective of resources and sustainable as possible. That is our task. That is what we are working on. Until we get there, we want to make it easy for you to take responsibility. The TourCert label allows you to recognise companies that take their responsibility for tomorrow seriously today. Companies, institutions, providers that are awarded the label have demonstrated in a consulting and certification process that their actions are based on ecological, social and economic sustainability principles.
