Christmas at the
Hospital of the
Holy Spirit

The heart of the Christmas city

You may have to wait awhile to enter the Hospital of the Holy Spirit but it is well worth it. The market is extremely popular and rightly so.

About 80 international artists and artisans demonstrate the diversity of old and new handicraft techniques over ten days. Each item s one of a kind. Rustic, individual stands are spread out in the porch area, in the medieval vaulted cellar and in the more than 100 so-called ‘cubbyholes’, tiny wooden chambers in the nave of the church, which were lived in until a few decades ago.

Even just browsing is a special journey of discovery. The porch area with its lovely decoration offers a beautiful atmosphere in the pre-Christmas season. The craft market has been organised and run by the German Association of Woman and Culture for Lübeck (Deutscher Verband Frau und Kultur e. V., Gruppe Lübeck) for over 50 years. Around 200 women volunteer for this good cause. The net proceeds are donated to cultural and social projects in Lübeck.
